Equipment For Table Tennis With Specification

To play the table tennis what we required is Table Tennis Table, TT Bat and TT Ball.

Table Tennis Table

Table is the most important part of Table Tennis game, so it must be of actual size as that needed. As per the International Specification the playing surface of the table should be rectangular 2.74 m long and 1.525 m wide and lie in a horizontal plane 75cm above the floor and this surface does not include the vertical sides of the tabletop. This playing surface can be made of any material but should yield a uniform bounce of 23cm when a ball is dropped from 30cm height. This surface can be off any dark color and with a white side line, 2cm wide along with 2.74m edge and a white end line which is 2cm wide along with 1.525m edge. And it must be divided into 2 parts by a vertical net running parallel with the end line.

Table Tennis Balls

As per the international specification the game is played with a light 2.7 gm, 40 mm diameter tt ball. It must be dropped at least 24 - 26 cm when dropped from 30 cm height.

Table Tennis Bat / Racket

To play this game, players are equipped with a laminated wooden racket covered with rubber on one or two sides depending on the grip of the players. This wooden portion of racket is called blade, in this 85% of the blade should be thickened of natural wood and the average size of blade is about 6.5 long and 6 inches wide.

Spins In Table Tennis

Table Tennis is a sport that involves various kind of Spins that makes the game different. Every stroke in game creates some different kind of spins that results in making the game more interesting and joyful. These are the spins that appears in Table Tennis Sports:

Backspin:

It is that when bottom half of the ball is rotating away from the player as is imparted by striking the base of ball with a downward movement. Backspin is usually used professionally as defensively in order to keep ball low as possible. Because of initial lift the speed of ball is as that player can hit the ball with missing opponent side of the table and backspin make it harder to return the ball in as much speed as needed due to angular precision of the return.

Topspin:

In topspin, there is some kind of smaller influence on first part of the ball and it is as in the axis of that spin remains perpendicular to the trajectory of the ball and this effect called the Magnus Effect. After this apex the ball clearly dips downwards as it approaches the opponent side before bouncing. The change will occur at the same time when opponent return the ball and due to topspin the ball jumps upward and forced to it created by opponent to adjust the angle of racket. The speed in topspin is minor as compared to backspin.

Sidespin:

Sidespin have very little effect on the bounce of ball in that manner that a spinning top would not travel left or right if its axis of rotation is exactly vertical.

Corkspin:

This service is used time to time in the lob at the professional level. In this the axis of rotation is more or less parallel to the trajectory of the ball. After bounce, the ball will dart right or left depending on the direction of the spin and making it difficult to return and this type of spin creates more obnoxious effect in the game.

Type Of Strokes In Table Tennis

In Table Tennis strokes are generally divided into two parts i.e. Offensive Strokes and Defensive Strokes

Offensive Strokes

Offensive Stroke is divided into various parts like Speed Drive (A direct hit to the ball as it forward back to the opponent because racket is perpendicular to the direction of stroke and most of the energy is applied to ball that create a speed shot rather than arc but it is fast enough), Loop (it is completely opposite of Speed Drive, in this the racket is in parallel direction of stroke and racket grazes the ball that results in creating a topspin and this loop creates arc), Counter Drive (it is normally high loop drives in this the racket is help closed and near to the ball as that manner it hit the ball with a short movement so that the ball travels faster to the other side), Flick (it is a shot when a player tries to hit the ball when it has not bounced beyond the edges of tables, the player does not have option to wind it up in a back-swing and the ball still may be attacked) and Smash (it is that when a player will typically execute a smash when his opponent returned a ball too high and too close to the net).

Defensive Strokes Defensive Stroke is generally considered as Push (it is used to keep the point alive and create offensive opportunity, resembles a tennis slice, the racket cuts underneath the ball imparting backspin and causing the ball to float slowly to the other side of table), Chop (it is the defensive, backspin counterpart to the offensive loop drive, essentially a bigger, heavier push, taken well back from the table, in this the racket face points primarily horizontally, perhaps a little bit upward, and the direction of the stroke is straight down), Block (it is a simple shot, but nonetheless can be devastating against an attacking opponent, it is executed by simply placing the racket in front of the ball right after the ball bounces thus, the ball rebounds back toward the opponent with nearly as much energy as it came in with) and Lob (it is possibly the most impressive shot in the sport of table tennis, since it propels the ball about fifteen feet in the air only to land on the opponent's side of the table with great amounts of spin).

Rules to Play Table Tennis

To play any game, basic step is to know the rules of game. These are the rules for playing table tennis sport.

Rule To Play Singles:

If we are playing table tennis sport as singles, center line serves no purpose. To play this sport needed equipment are tennis racket whose paddle should have a red and a black side, tennis ball 40 mm in size and either of orange or white color and table tennis table should be 2.74 m long, 1.525 m wide and 0.76 m high.

Scoring: The singles game is played best 3 of 5 games and every player has to reach at 11 points to be winner and a game must be won by at least 2 points margin. A point is scored after each ball is put into play and the edges of the table are considered as the part of legal table surface.

The Match Flow: Each player serves 2 point in a row and then switch server. When the score of 10-10 is reached in any game, each server serves only one point and then the server is switched. After each game players change the side of table. At the final game, players switch side again even players scored 5 points.

Legal Services: As per the legal rules the ball must rest on an open hand palm, it must be tossed up 6 inches and struck so the ball first bounces on the server side and then opponent side.

Rules To Play Doubles: When we play table tennis in singles, pairs can also play this. In doubles all rules are same as singles with these additional: The Match Flow: In doubles players must alternate hitting the ball like if A is partner of B and X is partner of Y then A is server and X is receiver. The order to play the game will be A - X - B - Y. This sequence would continue until one side fails to make a legal return and other side scores. After every change the previous receiver becomes the server and the partner of previous server becomes the receiver. Legal Rule: In each game of doubles, the pair that having rights to serve first will choose you will do so between them and the receiver team can only choose in the first game of the match. Scores: When a pair reaches 5 points in the final game, the pairs must switch ends of the table and the team must receives the service must switch receiver.
