Rules to Play Table Tennis

To play any game, basic step is to know the rules of game. These are the rules for playing table tennis sport.

Rule To Play Singles:

If we are playing table tennis sport as singles, center line serves no purpose. To play this sport needed equipment are tennis racket whose paddle should have a red and a black side, tennis ball 40 mm in size and either of orange or white color and table tennis table should be 2.74 m long, 1.525 m wide and 0.76 m high.

Scoring: The singles game is played best 3 of 5 games and every player has to reach at 11 points to be winner and a game must be won by at least 2 points margin. A point is scored after each ball is put into play and the edges of the table are considered as the part of legal table surface.

The Match Flow: Each player serves 2 point in a row and then switch server. When the score of 10-10 is reached in any game, each server serves only one point and then the server is switched. After each game players change the side of table. At the final game, players switch side again even players scored 5 points.

Legal Services: As per the legal rules the ball must rest on an open hand palm, it must be tossed up 6 inches and struck so the ball first bounces on the server side and then opponent side.


Rules To Play Doubles: When we play table tennis in singles, pairs can also play this. In doubles all rules are same as singles with these additional: The Match Flow: In doubles players must alternate hitting the ball like if A is partner of B and X is partner of Y then A is server and X is receiver. The order to play the game will be A - X - B - Y. This sequence would continue until one side fails to make a legal return and other side scores. After every change the previous receiver becomes the server and the partner of previous server becomes the receiver. Legal Rule: In each game of doubles, the pair that having rights to serve first will choose you will do so between them and the receiver team can only choose in the first game of the match. Scores: When a pair reaches 5 points in the final game, the pairs must switch ends of the table and the team must receives the service must switch receiver.
